So that really nice weather in Wales yesterday that brought everyone to Snowdownia for the banking holiday weekend? Yeah, that nice weather was all over England too. And I think all of England went to the beach. The highways were clogged with people, the roads in and out of beach towns were clogged with people. It was a mess. My clever little plan of sneaking off to the White Cliffs of Dover on a Monday so no one would be there? hahaha NOPE.
St Margaret’s Bay
That header should read White Cliffs of Dover, but with every single citizen of England down at the beaches, the parking lot for the White Cliffs was at capacity. Again, it was suggested I park 5 miles away and walk. Uh huh. I did get to see the cliffs though, there’s a highway that runs along the coast by the shipping yards and you can see the cliffs from there. They’re pretty cool, and I found another beach to go see them from: St Margaret’s Bay.
Except.
Except the road down to the beach is a one-lane road and there were so many cars coming and going and no place to pull over and let them pass, it took about 20 minutes to get down to the beach as people played chicken and someone had to blink and back it in reverse to a spot where the next car could pass. You’d think they’d have traffic cops or something? Maybe the weather caught them by surprise too.
But once you get down to the beach, it’s gorgeous. The cliffs really are remarkable, and the water was once again those crazy shades of blue.

I know that these yellow flowers aren’t the crazy yellow pollen that I’m super allergic to on the west coast of the US, but seeing fields and fields of the stuff triggered an autonomic fear response 🙂
Beachy Head Cliffs
Yes, that’s their name, Beachy Head Cliffs. And I’m not sure why the White Cliffs of Dover get the better rap, these were FAR cooler and more impressive. Once again though, maybe some handrails? I walked RIGHT UP to the cliff’s edge several times and it was a long way down. But how cool do these cliffs look? And they’re backed by endless green fields that go on for miles. Perfect end to the day.
