The last thing you want to see on a rental car when you’re barely a quarter of the way through your trip is the amber “check engine” light on your dash. And yet, that’s what appeared when I started the car this morning.

cool cool cool

There was no error message, and the “Service” menu was grayed out so I couldn’t see anything. One call to the British version of AAA later (named, AA, which… do they not have alcoholics in the UK?) and I had an appointment window of 2PM-4PM.

…

…

4:30PM, no call from anyone to let me know they’re coming. So I call in to see what’s going on. “Oh, well, you have an American phone number so they couldn’t call you to let you know they were there, you should’ve been waiting with the car.” Fun detail you maybe tell the customer BEFORE the scheduled appointment time, no? So lets reschedule it.

5:30PM, the AA guy shows up, runs his tests. “Can’t find anything wrong. It thinks there’s a sensor malfunction on the emissions system. I’ll just reset it for you, but you might want to ask the car rental place for a replacement.”

cool cool cool

So, I’m gonna keep driving it until I hear back from Enterprise about what they want to do…
