Not much to report today. The drive to Inverness crosses a bunch of places I plan on exploring in more depth later, and clips places I’ve just been to. So it’s really the most Point-A-to-Point-B kind of day so far. Though, I mean, my general rule of “don’t take the main highways” still applies, so the route was hardly the default suggestion from Google Maps.

Big Sky Country

One thing I keep encountering on these drives which doesn’t come across in photos – nor do I feel like I’m adequately describing it – is the sense of wide open spaces. What they call Big Sky Country in Montana. Just the sense that you’re the tiniest spec on a road under a massive dome of sky with this huge landscape sprawling away from you in all directions.

Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls

As the road came out of the woods and into the town of Killin (yikes), suddenly there was this rushing river of rocks and rapids that looked really cool. So I pulled over to the side of the road to grab a video and photos. Satisfied with what I captured I got back in the car and continued into town.

Only to turn the next corner and cross a bridge and realize, nope, that wasn’t the cool part. The cool part was here. This was Dochart Falls:

Deja Vu

Earlier in the day, as I was about a half hour outside of Glasgow, I drove through a roundabout (or a rotary? I don’t know what they’re called in this part of the world). As I was passing the first exit/entrance, I noticed a tarnished brown boot sitting in the little triangle of dirt and debris that’s formed in the little area where cars don’t drive as they angle into the roundabout. And I did an actual real-life double-take. Didn’t I see a tarnished brown boot sitting at the entrance of the roundabout I took the other day? What are the odds? Was this the other matching shoe, the pair magically linked by my trav- oh no wait this is just the exact same roundabout I took the other day when returning to Glasgow nevermind false alarm everyone carry on.

Single-Lane Road Of The Day™

I’m now a third of the way through this trip and have just now realized I should be snapping a pic of my favorite single-lane road and posting it here. I’m almost guaranteed to drive on one each day, so it can be a little thing I do at the end of each post, like The Route map I include. So, here is the 13th/1st Single-Lane Road Of The Day. So much moss!
