The sketchy weather continued for most of today, and was even more of a disappointment than yesterday. The low clouds and foggy mists defeated the sun’s efforts to burn them away, meaning the Sheep’s Head Peninsula was mostly invisible. And from all accounts, it’s a gorgeous walk out to the little lighthouse at the very tip.

The Skull Road

Driving along the coast, Google Maps kept pronouncing Schull Road as “skull road” and it was perfect since the first stop was at the Alter Wedge Tomb, a 5000-year-old tomb lined up with a mountain across the bay. It was atop a little clearing by the coast which was just as jagged and black as Michael Skellig the other day. SO COOL.

Through The Mists

The next stop was supposed to be the Sheep’s Head Peninsula lighthouse, but as you can see, the fog and mist was thick along the coastlines and obscured everything. I should’ve gotten:

But instead got:

*sigh*

Mountain Ridges

On the way down from the tip of the peninsula, you cross over the Seefin ridge, the mountain that runs along the length of the peninsula. It’s another great top-of-the-world moment as you crest the peak and see the opposite shores beyond.

The Sun Fights Back

Towards the end of the day the sun launched a valiant effort against the clouds and mists, but it was too little too late. Still, it made for some nice views as I drove back up the far side of the peninsula back towards Limerick. Also, at one point, this weird line of fluffy clouds was encroaching into the bay and really low along the water. It was so weird but really cool looking.
